Pani Popo (Samoan Sweet Coconut Buns) Recipe

Total Time: 40 minutes

Impress your poly friends with this white washed version of this delicious, gooey, SAMOAN, coconut sweet buns. I hate coconut and I eat my weight in these. My palagi (palangi) version of pani popo! I am definitely palagi but poly at heart. Enjoy this velvety coconut dream come true.

Pani Popo

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag (24-36 count) frozen rolls

  • 1 can coconut milk (around 13.66 oz)

  • 1/2 cup sweet condensed milk

Directions:

  1. Let the rolls thaw out or defrost in the microwave, but watch them carefully!

  2. Preheat oven to 350.

  3. Grease up your pan(s) with some butter! I highly suggest you use either a 9x13 dish or a sheet pan with some kind of edge or lip to it.

  4. Mix together coconut milk & sweet condensed milk until you get a thick consistency, no clumpy clumps.

  5. Place rolls in 9x13 pan evenly.

  6. Evenly spread out milk liquid over the rolls. Save a little to pour after taking them out of the oven. Fill them roll cracks!! These sweet buns are meant to be “soggy,” almost like rice pudding consistency, so keep that in mind.

  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until tops are golden brown.

  8. Pour a little milk mixture over the tops if you’re a soggy person like me after taken them out of the oven.
